Layoff Prep Checklist
30 things to do before and after a layoff. Check off each step as you complete it. First 10 items free — unlock all 30 with your email.
Download copies of all your work — portfolio pieces, reports you authored, presentations (check company policy first)
Export your professional contacts from Outlook/Gmail/LinkedIn BEFORE you lose corporate email access
Note your manager's and key colleagues' personal email addresses and phone numbers
Save any performance reviews, award notices, or positive feedback emails to personal storage
Understand your company's severance formula (weeks per year of service is typical — ask HR now, not later)
Review your stock vesting schedule — know exactly what unvests and when
Check whether your company has a WARN Act obligation (100+ employees must give 60 days notice — if they didn't, you may be owed pay)
Identify all company property you have (laptop, phone, badge) and all personal items in your office
Check if you have unused PTO — know your state's payout laws (California pays out all accrued PTO; most states don't)
Log out of personal accounts on company devices and company accounts on personal devices
